Rolls-Royce backs Mubadala Aerospace

DUBAI, United Arab Emirates, Nov. 19 (UPI) -- Rolls-Royce says it has entered into a strategic framework agreement with an Abu Dhabi aerospace company for maintenance and manufacturing activities.

Under the agreement with Mubadala Aerospace, Communications Technology and Defense Services, Rolls-Royce will support it in becoming the Middle East's first approved maintenance, repair and overhaul facility for Trent XWB engines.

Rolls-Royce will help Mubadala Aerospace establish an advance manufacturing research center to support Mubadala's goal of becoming a Tier 1 aerospace industry supplier.

"We are delighted to work with Mubadala to establish Abu Dhabi as a key aerospace hub for the support of Trent XWB engine maintenance, repair and overhaul and for component manufacturing," said Tony Wood, president of the Rolls-Royce Aerospace unit. "This is an exciting opportunity which will significantly extend both our aerospace supply chain and aero engine support capabilities."

Rolls-Royce said once Mubadala has a manufacturing capability, it plans to source engine components to the company that would be worth as much as $500 million over 10 years.

The agreement was announced at the Dubai Airshow.
