According to the U.S. Defense Security Cooperation Agency, the Foreign Military Sale contract would include embedded global positioning systems/inertial navigation systems, GPS security devices, airborne AN/ALQ-131 electronic counter-measure pods and AIM-120C advanced medium range air-to-air missiles.
Also included would be AIM-9M Sidewinder missiles, LAU-129 launchers, GBU-12 enhanced guided bomb units and Maverick missiles.
Spare and repair parts, support equipment, tanker support, ferry services, repair and return services, software development/integration, test and equipment, supply support, personnel training and training equipment would also be part of the package, which is worth an estimated $457 million.
"This proposed sale of weapons, equipment, and follow-on F-16 support will enable Romania to support both its own air defense needs and coalition operations," the agency said in its notification to Congress.
Principal contractors would be Elbit Systems of America, Pratt and Whitney, BAE Systems Inc., Lockheed Martin, Northrup Grumman Aerospace Systems, ViaSat Inc., Data Link Solutions LLC, Snap-On Inc., and Booz Allen Hamilton Engineering Services LLC.
