ORLANDO, Fla., Oct. 29 (UPI) -- Additional fire control systems for U.S. Marine Corps AH-Z1Z Cobra helicopters are to be produced by Lockheed Martin under a $33.9 million follow-on contract.
The Lot 10 production contract for target sight systems, which are to be delivered by December 2015, was awarded by the U.S. Naval Surface Warfare Center, Crane Division.
"This contract allows our TSS team to move seamlessly into an accelerated delivery schedule ensuring the system is available to warfighters during critical missions," said Brad Partain, senior program manager of airborne systems at Lockheed Martin Missiles and Fire Control. "The system enables pilots to see farther, engage threats with increased confidence and safely return to base."
The target sight system, or TSS, is a stabilized sensor suite that includes a laser designator, color video display and a third-generation, mid-wave, forward-looking infrared sensor with advanced image processing.
Lockheed Martin received an initial production contract from the Navy for the system in 2008, with follow-on production contracts issued in 2010, 2011 and 2012, the company said.
The units will be manufactured at Lockheed facilities in Ocala, Fla., and Orlando, Fla.
