WASHINGTON, Oct. 23 (UPI) -- Textron Marine & Land Systems has introduced on the market a new four-wheeled armored vehicle with a 90mm low pressure gun.

The vehicle, the Commando Select 90mm Direct Fire, is the latest addition to the company's Commando vehicle line and "meets growing international demand for significantly greater under-armor firepower integrated on a highly-mobile armored vehicle," said Tom Walmsley, Textron senior vice president and general manager.

"Our new vehicles are a direct response to multiple international customers seeking additional firepower in highly protected, mobile and sustainable armored vehicles," Walmsley said. "The 90mm Direct Fire vehicle uses our combat-proven Commando Select platform and adds a trusted CMI Defense turret to deliver an effective package for a wide range of military and security applications."

The vehicle features a V-shaped hull for protection from mines and improvised explosive devices, and can carry as many as seven soldiers plus crew. Its Cockerill MK 90mm gun is operated from a two-man turret atop the vehicle.

Textron is showcasing the system at the annual meeting and exhibition of the Association of the United States Army in Washington.
