Rockwell Collins introduces aircraft vision system

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa, Oct. 14 (UPI) -- Rockwell Collins introduced a vision system for aircraft and says it improves detection of terrain, obstacles and hazards in low visibility conditions.

The EVS-3000, for commercial aviation, is available in head-up and head-down displays, the company said, and has the ability to fully detect LED runway lighting, which is increasingly being used by airports.

"We're bringing unprecedented accuracy in sensing what's ahead during critical phases of flight," said Craig Olson, senior director, Head-up Guidance Systems for Rockwell Collins. "At the same time, operators will experience enhanced reliability and lower cost of ownership from our lower-weight, more energy-efficient EVS [enhanced vision system] solution."

The company said the lower weight and lower power consumption is the result of the EVS-3000 not requiring the traditional built-in cooling system used in current vision products.

The system will be formally displayed later this month at the National Business Aviation Association Convention and Exhibition in Las Vegas.
