Lockheed to support Army communications

WASHINGTON, Oct. 14 (UPI) -- An IDIQ contract has been given to Lockheed Martin for U.S. Army communications and transmission services to support battlefield operations.

The indefinite-delivery/indefinite-quantity award -- in support of the Army's Project Manager of Defense Communications and Army Transmissions Systems -- is for five years, during which time Lockheed will compete for task orders to deliver affordable satellite and terrestrial communications services.

"Lockheed Martin is honored to work with the Army to provide enhanced situational awareness and network connectivity to the warfighter -- regardless of location," said Robert Smith, vice president of Space & Cyber for Lockheed Martin Information Systems & Global Solutions. "In assessing the customer's challenges with our own capabilities in communications technology, Lockheed Martin can provide value-added communications and transmission solutions to deliver voice, video and data services around the globe."

Lockheed said it is partnering with Globecomm, Inmarsat Government-U.S. and Hughes Network Systems and others for the contract work.
