PARIS, Oct. 9 (UPI) -- Thales of France says it has been contracted to supply Identification Friend or Foe Transponders for use on Brazilian military aircraft.

The contract for the IFF transponders was issued by Brazilian aircraft manufacturer Embraer, which is upgrading the Brazilian Air Force's AIM fighters and E-99 AEW surveillance aircraft.

Thales said it will supply its TSC 2030 and TSC 2050 transponders for a total of 48 aircraft. A delivery schedule was not disclosed, nor was the value of the award.

The panel-mounted TSC 2030 transponder and the remote 2050 transponder meet all the most recent standards and regulations defined by NATO and the International Civil Aviation Organization.

"This IFF retrofit program for the Brazilian Air Force shows that Thales' BlueGate IFF solutions are an excellent fit for upgrading existing aircraft," said Jean-Michel Lagarde, chief executive officer of Thales Communications & Security. "We are proud to have been selected by Embraer and delighted to have this opportunity to further strengthen our relationship with this major industry player."
