PARIS, Oct. 2 (UPI) -- Sagem of France is building a new facility in Morocco for the production of mechanical and electronic components for the aerospace industry.

The plant will be located in the Nouaceur airport zone near Casablanca. It will be running by September of next year.

The Sagem Moroc subsidiary will be about 43,000 square feet in size and employ 150 workers, Sagem said. The company investment in it in 2013-2014 is $6.7 million.

Production of the mechanical and electronic components begins this month at a temporary site during construction of the new facility.

"This investment in Sagem Maroc is designed to increase Sagem's competitiveness, and is part of the company's modernization drive, also including a new plant in Buchelay, in the greater Paris area," Sagem said. "Sagem's industrial development program aims to ensure the long-term production of critical mechanical parts in France, while also giving Sagem world-class production facilities to meet the competitiveness requirements of today's global civil aviation market."
