French Defense Minister Jean-Yves Le Drian attended a ceremony alongside his Spanish counterpart, Pedro Morene, to mark the delivery of the first production of the next-generation A400M military airlift vehicle.
Airbus Military, a division of the European Aeronautic Defense and Space Co., describes its A400M as having tactical and strategic capabilities ranging from air-to-air refueling to support for humanitarian operations.
"The A400M is the most cost efficient and versatile airlifter ever conceived and absolutely unique in its capabilities," it touted.
The company said in a statement more than 700 people were on hand to attend Monday's ceremony. The first aircraft off the Seville assembly line is the first of 50 ordered by the French military.
Airbus Military, which has headquarters in Madrid, said the French military would use the aircraft initially for training purposes before its deployed on military or humanitarian missions.
