ROANOKE, Va., Sept. 30 (UPI) -- The Night Vision and Tactical Communications Systems division of Exelis is providing night vision goggles to an unidentified customer.

The direct commercial deal carries a value of $28 million. Deliveries of the i-Aware Tactical Mobility Night Vision Goggles will occur next year.

"Our advanced goggle provides this international customer with an increased operational effectiveness using the latest in night vision technology while still providing the ability to build to a system with increased capabilities," said Nick Bobay, president of the Exelis Night Vision and Tactical Communications Systems.

The i-Aware night vision goggles, which connect individuals to the larger battlefield network, is a lightweight, third-general version that can be operated independently or as part of a larger network, providing integrated color video, advanced imagery displays and shared situational awareness.

Additional features include video import and export capability, GPS viewing, mapping, command text messages and target information with video input from weapon sights to view around corners.

As part of a larger network, it can be used with systems such as Exelis' SpearNet, a data network radio that can transmit voice as well as streaming video, allowing commanders to maintain secure communications and see what dismounted soldiers see, in real time.
