Sept. 26, 2013 at 1:07 PM

PARIS, Sept. 26 (UPI) -- The Norwegian subsidiary of Thales is opening a helicopter training center near the city of Stavanger in 2015.

The immediate goal of the center is to provide training services for oil and gas sector operators, but it will also open up new areas of training in support of defense and search-and-rescue operations in Norway.

"Thales, as a leader in safety, is in the best position to answer the need for local helicopter training and simulations services in Norway," said Thales Norway Chief Executive Officer Glenn Pedersen. "Our aim is to provide our clients with the best in class helicopter training services delivered in Norway."

"The technological advances achieved by Thales's new Reality H Helicopter simulators and the synergies offered by all the Thales training products for the civil and defense markets are key drivers, which allow us to leverage our technological expertise to offer world-class training services for all our customers," added Jean-jacques Guittard, vice president of Thales Training & Simulation.
