Smiths Detection launches new scanner

WEISBADEN, Germany, Sept. 26 (UPI) -- A dual-view X-ray inspection system for automatic explosive detection at security points, such as those at airports, has been launched by Smiths Detection.

The system is the HI-SCAN 6040-2is. It is compact, weighs less than 2,000 pounds and high-throughput system for luggage and other containers.

"The HI-SCAN 6040-2is is set to cause a stir in the market," said Ian May, senior vice president, Global Sales, of Smiths Detection. "The combination of a compact footprint and high-quality features such as excellent image quality and outstanding penetration, offers an affordable and adaptable system ideal for the global markets."

Smith's Detection said the HI-SCAN 6040-2is can penetrate nearly 1.4 inches of steel and features an operator interface which supports the operator's ability to identify illegal objects and explosives in standard or high-resolution image display.

The system also offers different monitor option
