Northrop producing ship control system for Coast Guard cutter

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va., Sept. 25 (UPI) -- A $6.9 million contract has been given to Northrop Grumman for the ship integrated control system for a new U.S. Coast Guard cutter.

The contract was issued by Huntington Ingalls Industries, the ship's builder.

The control system consists of an integrated bridge system, steering control, steering gear, machinery controls and monitoring system. The contract with Northrop also includes provision of engineering services required to complete the system's installation, as well as integration, testing and commissioning of the systems.

"The SICS provides the National Security Cutter with a sound, time-tested architecture and reliable shipboard infrastructure for the integrated bridge, machinery controls and steering systems, three major components where correct integration is particularly essential to mission effectiveness and long-term efficiency," said Bill Hannon, vice president of Northrop Grumman's Maritime Systems business unit. "Our improvements in performance and cost-control measures demonstrate our ongoing commitment to providing superior customer service to the Coast Guard."
