CLIFTON, N.J., Sept. 19 (UPI) -- A system that locates the source of GPS interference in 3D has been successfully demonstrated by Exelis at a test range using controlled electronic jamming.
Signal Sentry 1000, using eight sensors in an array pattern, successfully detected and located the source of jamming signals utilizing longitude, latitude and altitude data.
"Exelis developed Signal Sentry 1000 to help protect critical infrastructure and to deliver intelligence to law enforcement operations that depend upon GPS availability," said Mark Pisani, vice president and general manager of precision instruments and positioning, navigation and timing for Exelis Geospatial Systems. "Achieving this field test milestone proves that our detection technology works. The next step is to evolve this technology for our military customers."
Exelis said the system is a network of threat-detection sensors and part of a centralized server that uses company developed location algorithms. The sensors are placed around critical infrastructure and automatically sense and locate any intentional or unintentional GPS jamming source.
