Sept. 16, 2013 at 9:35 AM

LONDON, Sept. 16 (UPI) -- Amphibious all-terrain armored vehicles BAE Systems Hagglunds is producing for the French Army will have remote weapon stations from Kongsberg of Norway.

The RWS to be provided by Kongsberg to BAE's Swedish subsidiary is the fully stabilized Protector, designed for small- and medium-caliber weapons.

"Being the world's largest producer of remote weapon stations, it is exciting to be integrated onto a new vehicle platform," said Espen Henriksen, president of Kongsberg Protech Systems. "France is an important market for us, and we look forward to strengthening our relationship with both of these customers."

The value of the contract was not disclosed in the announcement, which was made in London at an international defense and security equipment exhibition.

Deliveries of the Protector RWS are expected to begin in the first quarter of next year.

Kongsberg said the RWS can operate in all environmental conditions and more than 17,000 units have been delivered to military forces in 17 countries.
