SYDNEY, Aug. 30 (UPI) -- The first of two MRH90 full-flight and mission simulators from CAE Australia has been accepted into service at an Australian Army training center.
The MRH90 FFMS -- certified to Australian Defense Force Airworthiness Authority to Level D under the Australian Civil Aviation Safety Authority and Joint Aviation Requirements standards -- will be used to train pilots for NH90 helicopters.
"This simulator allows instructors to present pilots with a wide range of operational training scenarios, such as flying in to remote bush landing sites, flying in formation with other aircraft, and being safely exposed to complex emergency situations," said Col. David Burke, commandant of the Australian Army's Aviation Training Center in Oakey, Queensland.
"The majority of basic training will now be conducted in the simulator before pilots get to the real aircraft."
CAE Australia is a subsidiary of Canada's CAE. In addition to supplying two simulators to Australia for the Australian Defense Force's MRH90 training program, it was contracted to supply training facilities and comprehensive engineering and support services.
A second MRH90 FFMS will be delivered to Royal Australian Air Force Base Townsville, Queensland, next year.
