Damen, Mexico sign deal for patrol boat

GORNICHEM, Netherlands, Aug. 23 (UPI) -- Damen Shipyards Group of the Netherlands has signed a contract with Mexico for a fourth Stan 4207 patrol boat.

The patrol boat for the Mexican navy will actually be built at the Mexican Navy yard in Tampico -- ASTIMAR 1 -- with Damen providing the design and material package and technical support.

"This Mexican patrol vessel is the fourth of this class to be built in Mexico," Damen said. "As with other clients, Damen puts its DTC-program [Damen Technical Cooperation] to use. This service is offered to both young and experienced shipyards and aims, if and when the client so desires, to develop their shipbuilding capabilities with respect to Damen vessels.

"With technical, operational and logistical assistance, Damen shares its extensive knowledge on shipbuilding with many yards worldwide."

The value of the contract signed earlier this month was not disclosed.

The Damen Stan Patrol 4207 is 140 feet long, 23 feet in the beam and has a maximum speed of 26 knots. It is designed for use in coastal areas.
