ORLANDO, Fla., July 30 (UPI) -- Northrop Grumman has received a U.S. Air Force contract with a potential value of $490 million to continue its DMON 2.0 network and integration services.

DMON stands for Distributed Mission Operations Network. DMON allows dissimilar aircraft around the world to train together in a virtual environment.

"Northrop Grumman and our teammates partnered with the Air Force to build the Distributed Mission Operations Network from the ground up," Mike Twyman, sector vice president and general manager of the defense systems division for Northrop Grumman Information Systems. "For more than a decade, we have been proud to support critical war-fighter training on events ranging from small-scale daily composite team training to large force engagements involving multiple sites and complex missions."

The contract is a firm-fixed-price, indefinite-delivery/indefinite-quantity vehicle with a five-year period of performance. Exercise of options could extend its life to 2023.

"Northrop Grumman has been the prime contractor on the Combat Air Force Distributed Mission Training Operations and Integration program since its inception in 1999," the company pointed out.
