Supacat, Navistar partner

DUNKESWELL, England, July 23 (UPI) -- Two British companies are teaming up to gain future work supporting Britain's protected military vehicle fleet.

The companies are Supacat, which produces Jackal and Coyote armored infantry vehicles, and Navistar Defense, a subsidiary of Navistar in the United States.

Navistar manufactures the Husky vehicle, which is in use in Afghanistan.

The two companies said that under their memorandum of agreement, they will combine support operations and capabilities to prepare for a strategic support supplier arrangement for the Ministry of Defense, which has purchased more than 600 Jackal and Coyote vehicles and 300 Husky vehicles.

"We see this proactive step as a means to deliver cross-platform efficiencies required by the MOD, while providing flexibility by putting the vehicle OEMs (original equipment manufacturers) in the driver's seat," said Nick Ames, managing director for Supacat.

"We feel this ... [agreement] will lead to strong foundations for a relationship enabling us to offer strong, flexible and comprehensive service to the MOD," said Robert Ward, regional manager for Navistar. "We look forward to working with the MOD and preparing for ... [strategic support supplier] arrangements to meet their needs."
