Poland hold negotiations for new helicopters

WARSAW, Poland, July 23 (UPI) -- Poland's Ministry of Defense has started the technical negotiation process with three helicopter manufacturers over procurement of 70 aircraft.

Reports from Poland say the manufacturers are a Sikorsky Aircraft consortium, a consortium led by Eurocopter SAS and Heli Invest Services and WSK PZL-Swidnik, a subsidiary of AgustaWestland.

Following technical negotiations, the companies would be invited to tender for the contract, which would be worth $2.1 billion-$2.76 billion.

The award for production of the helicopters, which will be used for transport and mission support, is expected to be announced next year. Initial deliveries would begin in 2016 and concluded by 2022.

The Gazeta Wyborcza reported that Polish Minister of Defense Tomasz Siemoniak has already specified that Poland will favor companies that can carry out the project in Poland and where possible use Polish components in the helicopters.
