BAE protests contract award to Raytheon

WASHINGTON, July 19 (UPI) -- Raytheon's recently awarded U.S. Navy contract for the technology development phase of a Next-Generation Jammer system is being protested by BAE Systems.

The protest over how the Navy evaluated BAE's offering was filed this week with the U.S. Government Accountability Office.

The Next-Generation Jammer is to replace the ALQ-99 tactical jamming system currently used by the Navy's EA-18G Growler tactical airborne electronic attack aircraft.

"Raytheon provided the U.S. Navy with an innovative and efficient design capable of jamming current and future threats," Rick Yuse, president of Raytheon's Space and Airborne Systems business, said at the time of the award "Our technology approach met the program requirements and leveraged our industry team's extensive experience in combat-proven, high-reliability agile-beam RF systems designed for demanding carrier-based aircraft environments."

The cost-plus-incentive-fee contract is worth $279.4 million.

Additional details of the protest lodged with the GAO were not immediately available.
