PITTSBURGH, July 18 (UPI) -- Logistics support for the U.S. military's Central Command in the Middle East and the U.S. Navy in Bahrain is to be provided by GENCO Infrastructure Solutions.

The contract for the work was issued by the U.S. Defense Logistics Agency. It is for a base period of one year with four one-year options. It carries a value of $38.8 million.

"As our first overseas prime contract, the DLA distribution operation in Bahrain builds on our previous success and provides an opportunity to support the Navy's 5th Fleet, a long standing, forward deployed, strategic capability and other Army and Air Force units in the region."

Genco had previously handled U.S. military logistics in Kuwait.

The operation for the Navy in Bahrain and CENTCOM will utilize a 330,000 square foot facility for handling U.S. government property for all U.S. military services and the Navy's Material Processing Center for fleet support.

Full operations are scheduled to begin in September, Genco said.
