L-3 Link opens C-17 training site

ARLINGTON, Texas, July 16 (UPI) -- A new training facility for U.S. Air Force C-17 crews has been opened at a base in Ohio by L-3 Link Simulation & Training.

The C-17 Training System site is located at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base and will specifically provide annual refresher and current training to support more than 120 U.S. Air Force Reserve C-17 crewmembers assigned to the 445th Airlift Wing, 89th Airlift Squadron.

"By standing up this new C-17 Training System facility, aircrews based at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base will no longer need to travel to other installations to gain instruction or complete simulator currency events," said Lenny Genna, president of L-3 Link. "This on-base training capability allows the U.S. Air Force to experience considerable travel-cost savings and provides local crewmembers and commanders ready access to the sophisticated training devices L-3 Link will maintain and operate at this new location."

The training -- in classroom and computer-based training settings – is being conducted by L-3 Link instructors.

L-3 Link also provides contractor logistics support and maintenance of the training devices.

L-3 Link, the prime contractor for the Air Force's C-17 Training System program, plans to establish similar facilities for aircrew and maintainers at bases in in New York, Tennessee and West Virginia.
