DULLES, Va., June 28 (UPI) -- Raytheon says it has acquired Visual Analytics Inc., enhancing its capabilities in data analytics, data visualization and information sharing.

Visual Analytics was a privately held company in Maryland. It will now operate as Raytheon Visual Analytics.

The date of the transaction's closing and the monetary considerations in the deal were not disclosed.

"The addition of Visual Analytics will further strengthen Raytheon's capabilities in the area of data analytics," said Lynn Dugle, president of Raytheon's Intelligence, Information and Services (IIS) business. "This will allow us to bring new, innovative visualization offerings to our customers as they address the continuous challenge of increasing analyst efficiency and effectiveness while transforming data into actionable intelligence."

Raytheon notes it is one of the largest processors of data for the intelligence community. In addition to adding enhanced capabilities to its portfolio, the acquisition broadens its customer base in federal, state and local law enforcement markets.

Visual Analytics Chief Executive Officer and co-founder, Chris Westphal, will remain as general manager, while President and co-founder David O'Conner remains as chief technology officer.
