EL SEGUNDO, Calif., June 11 (UPI) -- Advanced composite materials for aircraft systems are to be researched by Wyle for the U.S. Air Force as part of a $4.6 million contract.

The award for engineering analysis was given by the Defense Technical Information Center and work will specifically be conducted for the U.S. Air Force Institute of Technology's Department of Systems Engineering and Management.

"Wyle has extensive experience in providing engineering analyses using structured engineering and testing approaches in the development, implementation and execution of logistic, sustainment and acquisition," said Roger Wood, Wyle's program manager.

"Wyle is eager to work with the U.S. Air Force's Institute of Technology. Our company culture will allow us to produce meaningful contributions at this multi-disciplinary academic organization to achieve integrated solutions to U.S. Air Force challenges."

Wyle said it will focus on cost factors influencing the life-cycle cost of military aircraft systems using composite materials.

Also to be assessed will be operation and support/sustainment strategies using projected system and sub-system reliability. Data obtained will aid in determining reliability, modes and patterns, safety/risk areas and support issues for the use of the composites.

No information was given on the length of the contract.
