NASA contracts for aircraft maintenance

EDWARDS, Calif., June 5 (UPI) -- L-3 Vertex Aerospace, headquartered in Mississippi, has been contracted to maintain all aircraft used by NASA's Dryden Flight Research Center.

The contract for maintenance of aircraft, aircraft engines and related ground support equipment covers specialized research and support aircraft -- from motor gliders and modified commercial aircraft to former military high-performance and one-of-a-kind research aircraft.

Services include organizational, intermediate and limited depot-level aircraft maintenance; modification of aircraft and flight-line operations support.

L-3 Vertex said the contract, which includes a one-month phase-in period, takes effect July 1. It is a cost-plus-award-fee contract with a base period of 22 months, two one-year options and one 14-month option.

The contract's total value if all options were exercised would be about $77.1 million.

In addition to aircraft at the Dryden Flight Research Center at Edwards Air Force Base and the Dryden Aircraft Operations Facility -- both of which are in California -- the contract covers Dryden aircraft deployed to other locations, the company said.
