OTTAWA, May 23 (UPI) -- The Canadian government and the government of Peru have agreed to cooperate on military equipment and services procurement.

The office of the Prime Minister of Canada said Thursday the Memorandum of Understanding was signed Wednesday by the Canadian Commercial Corp. and the Ministry of Defense of the Republic of Peru.

"Under this agreement, the CCC will work with the Ministry of Defense of the Republic of Peru to facilitate and improve cooperation for the purchase of services or military and defense equipment," it said.

"More specifically, the agreement allows the Ministry of Defense to make requests to the CCC to acquire services or products and allows the CCC to make unsolicited offers to the Ministry of Defense, identifying Canadian suppliers who have the expertise to provide the services or deliver the products."

Canada said the accord is in effect and remains valid for three years.
