SAIC tapped for chem-bio support services

MCLEAN, Va., May 20 (UPI) -- The U.S. military's Joint Program Executive Office for Chemical and Biological Defense has tapped SAIC for support services.

The multiple-award, indefinite-delivery/indefinite-quantity contract is for three years with two one-year extensions and one six-month extension.

The contract value for all 42 awardees is $495 million.

Under the contract, Science Applications International Corp. will provide support services to JPEO-CBD in several domains. Among the areas covered: business and analytics; engineering and technical; logistics; information technology; and medical.

"The services we offer through this contract vehicle greatly improve JPEO-CBD's ability to respond to the needs of the warfighter, which provides greater security to the nation and our assets and allies overseas," added John Thomas, acting president of SAIC's National Security Sector.

JPEO-CBD provides research, development, acquisition, fielding and life-cycle support of chemical and biological defense equipment and medical counter-measures for the United States Included is the acquisition and fielding of chemical and biological detection and reconnaissance systems, decontamination systems, medical devices and vaccines.
