The prototypes to be delivered -- the Target Location and Designation System Systems -- will enable dismounted forward observers and Joint Terminal Attack Controllers to acquire, locate and mark targets for attack with GPS-guided and laser-guided munitions.
The TLDS component of the JTAC is a light-weight, handheld unit.
The contract awarded is a cost-plus-fixed-fee, incrementally funded arrangement worth $15.5 million. Work will be performed at DRS facilities in Texas and Florida and is expected to be complete by 2016.
