GATINEAU, Quebec, April 26 (UPI) -- The government of Canada is seeking expert support for contracts to be awarded under its upcoming National Shipbuilding Procurement Strategy.
The third-party expert would support contract negotiations relating to shipbuilding and ship design work, assess cost proposals and advise on procurement and project management.
"Our government created the National Shipbuilding Procurement Strategy to end the boom-and-bust cycle in Canadian shipbuilding, deliver much needed equipment to the Royal Canadian Navy and Canadian Coast Guard, and to support the Canadian economy by building ships right here in Canada," said Public Works and Government Services Canada Minister Rona Ambrose.
"Industry analysts have estimated that our shipbuilding strategy will contribute 15,000 jobs from coast to coast and over $2 billion in annual economic benefits over the next 30 years."
Public Works and Government Services Canada said that since its launch in 2010, the NSPS strategy has contributed to extensive consultations with industry, a strong governance structure and the continuous involvement of independent third parties.
