Selex ES, AEL eye joint venture

RIO DE JANEIRO, April 11 (UPI) -- A joint venture to produce M-scan airborne radar technologies and products to Brazil is to be negotiated by Selex ES and AEL Sistemas S.A.

Selex is an Italian company, while AEL Sistemas is a Brazilian subsidiary of Israel's Elbit Systems Ltd.

The companies, in a news release at the LAAD defense and security exhibition in Brazil, said the Memorandum of Understanding to be signed will include in-country maintenance of Embraer's KC-390 aircraft, for which Selex is supply its Gabbiano T-20 surveillance radar, and for unmanned aerial systems.

"This Joint Venture will bring cutting-edge technology value to Brazil and will enhance AEL's positioning as an MRO center of excellence in the territory," Shlomo Erez president of AEL said. "Selex ES is a very important player with a distinctive strength in radars and complex systems. We are confident that in the future we will be able to co-operate in many areas, extending the scope of this Joint Venture to the wider Selex ES portfolio."

Added Fabrizio Giulianini, chief executive officer of Selex ES: "This collaboration will strengthen our presence in Brazil where we are keen to further transfer valuable technologies and create a basis for solid co-development activities."
