GATINEAU, Quebec, April 3 (UPI) -- The government of Canada has issued for formal Request for Proposal to acquire integrated soldier system equipment.

The RFP's closing date is Aug. 1. It was issued by Public Works and Government Services Canada on behalf of the Department of National Defense.

As many as 6,624 integrated suites of cutting-edge equipment will be ordered under the country's four-year Integrated Soldier System Project. Included will be weapon accessories, electronic devices, sensors, individual equipment and operational clothing.

The winner of the contract will also supply 11 years of in-service support.

The RFP is the second issued for the project. An earlier RFP was canceled when no compliant bids were received.

No other details of the new RFP were immediately available but Public Works and Government Services Canada said "the Industrial and Regional Benefits Policy, which applies to this procurement, will ensure that the winning contractor creates economic benefits in Canada equal to 100 percent of the contract value."
