LAS VEGAS, March 25 (UPI) -- A new system that provides navigational information to aircraft has been shown by Northrop Grumman at an industry trade show in Las Vegas.
The system is the LCR-200 Attitude and Heading Reference System. It is based on micro-electromechanical systems technology and was developed by the company's German subsidiary, Northrop Grumman LITEF.
The LCR-200 AHRS, with its MEMS-based inertial measurement unit, was developed for the retrofit market.
"The LCR-200's new features offer high performance with ease of installation, making the system ideally suited for retrofit aircraft," said Eckehardt Keip, managing director for Northrop Grumman LITEF. "Our extensive research and development activities over many years have enhanced the performance and new features of the AHRS."
The new LCR-200 system offers a small, lightweight and easily installed solution, while utilizing the form factor and interface design of the company's existing LCR-100 system.
The LCR-200 has the same synchro interface module used in Northrop's LCR-100, enabling the analog synchro output to interface with older autopilot systems. It is also designed to avoid problems caused by acoustic and structural vibration.
The system was introduced Monday at the Aircraft Electronics Association's International Convention and Trade Show in Las Vegas.
