EPA honor for Raytheon

WALTHAM, Mass., March 21 (UPI) -- Raytheon reports it has been recognized by The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency for cutting greenhouse gas emissions and achieving its reduction goal.

The EPA recognition -- the Excellence in Greenhouse Gas Management Award for Goal Achievement -- was given by in partnership with the Association of Climate Change Officers, the Center for Climate and Energy Solutions, and the Climate Registry award.

"Our Climate Leadership Award winners are leading by example with their outstanding actions to reduce carbon pollution," said Gina McCarthy, administer for EPA's Office of Air and Radiation. "These organizations are tackling the challenge of climate change with practical, common-sense, and cost-saving solutions to improve efficiency and cut waste."

Raytheon met or exceeded its goals in reduction of greenhouse gases ahead of schedule.

Raytheon in 2008, under the EPA's former Climate Leaders Program, set a goal of reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 10 percent by 2015 from 2008 levels. The company, however, achieved a 16 percent reduction through 2011 and a 21 percent reduction through 2012.
