Cyber-tech effort adds more companies

BALTIMORE, March 15 (UPI) -- A U.S. cybersecurity technology incubator program has added new participants in the effort to commercialize technologies to combat cyberthreats.

Joining the Cync program of Northrop Grumman and the University of Maryland, Baltimore County Research Park Corporation are iWebGate of Perth, Australia, DB Networks of San Diego, and Light Point Security of Baltimore.

Already participating are U.S. companies AccelerEyes, Five Directions, KoolSpan, Oculis Labs and Spotkick, some of which have receive d Fast Track awards from the U.S. Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency.

"As the cyberthreat continues to evolve, we need to invest in emerging technology and business ventures to support development of new global network defense capabilities," said Jim Myers, vice president and general manager of Northrop Grumman's Cyber Solutions division.

"The Northrop Grumman Cync program is doing just that, building a global incubator of solutions that will help defend networks and speed innovative solutions to our customers."

The Cync program offers a "scholarship program for companies with the most promising cybersecurity ideas."

Funding for the program is provided by Northrop Grumman. Cync is part of the bwtech@UMBC Cyber Incubator program on the campus, a research and technology community of about 100 companies.
