YEOVIL, England, March 7 (UPI) -- An undisclosed number of AW139 helicopters have been ordered by Saudi Arabia's Ministry of Defense from AgustaWestland.

The aircraft will be used by the ministry's Aeromedical Evacuation Department and will be configured with an interior specifically for that mission.

"It is the first order for the AW139 to be placed by the Ministry of Defense of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and continues the success of the AW139 in the kingdom, where it is already performing demanding missions with other prestigious operators," said AgustaWestland, a British-Italian company.

The AW139 is a medium-sized, twin-engine search-and-rescue and utility aircraft. It has a maximum speed of 193 miles per hour and a range of 573 miles. It is operated in about 60 countries.

The value of the order from Saudi Arabia wasn't disclosed. The company, however, said deliveries of the aircraft would begin this year and be completed by early next year.
