AUSTIN, Texas, March 5 (UPI) -- The U.S. military has ordered more rugged tablet computers from Xplore Technologies Corp. of Texas for use by frontline troops and aboard fixed-wing aircraft.

The order for more than 200 iX104C5 DMSR systems is the second for U.S. forces and is the "second-largest purchase from the military sector in recent months," the company said.

The iX104C5 DMSR-M rugged tablet is built to meet military specifications. It can withstand a 7-foot drop and has a sunlight-readable display. It operates without interrupting radio signals, can provide real-time video streaming and has the capability to interface with specialized equipment.

"Our products are the only truly upgradeable and field replaceable rugged tablet PCs that offer high reliability, a low failure rate and a fast processing speed that enable military personnel to execute mission plans in the most challenging conditions and, in some cases, save lives," said Mark Holleran, president and chief operating officer for Xplore Technologies.

The tablet PCs will be delivered within the next two months, the company said.
