VoIP data system for Fort Leonard Wood

HERNDON, Va., March 1 (UPI) -- A $14.4 million U.S. Army contract has been given to LGS Innovations to provide a digital Voice-over Internet Protocol data system to Fort Leonard Wood, Mo.

The digital VoIP system will replace the facility's existing Nortel SL100 system.

LGS said it will use a solution based on an Avaya Communication Manager 6 unified communications system to ensure a resilient, distributed network of gateways with analog, digital and IP-based communication devices.

The CM6 also provides Public Branch Exchange capabilities and multi-protocol support.

"This is a great opportunity for LGS to help modernize this important military installation," said LGS Innovations Chief Executive Officer Kevin Kelly. "By modernizing to a digital data system, Fort Leonard Wood will be able to take advantage of all of the benefits of greater bandwidth, data speeds and rich media capabilities for its mission."

Fort Leonard Wood is a primary center U.S. Department of Defense training center for earthmoving, truck driving, civil support and Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear First Responders.
