ORLANDO, Fla., Feb. 22 (UPI) -- Lockheed Martin's DAGR missile launch platform, successfully demonstrated on rotary aircraft, has proved its worth on ground vehicle.

The Direct Attack Ground Rocket system, mounted on a pedestal and using two Hydra 70 rockets, locked onto the laser spot of targets seconds after launch, flew 3 miles down range and struck the target within 3 feet of the laser spot, the company said.

The DAGR launch was conducted from the bed of a Lockheed Martin prototype Joint Light Tactical Vehicle at Eglin Air Force Base in Florida.

"DAGR delivers a high-precision defensive capability to the surface combat arena when paired with the pedestal launcher and a mobile ground platform like the JLTV," said Ken Musculus, director of close combat systems at Lockheed Martin Missiles and Fire Control.

The DAGR pedestal launcher for ground vehicles features four M299 launcher rails, associated cables and electronics and is fully compatible with both DAGR missiles and Hellfire missiles. Its 2.75-inch guidance kit integrates seamlessly with legacy Hydra-70 rockets.
