ALLENTOWN, Pa., Feb. 21 (UPI) -- Lancer LP, a Pennsylvania manufacturer of components for small arms, is highlighting its collaboration with Sig Sauer Inc. on the new SIG MPX submachine gun.
The submachine gun, in machine pistol size, is for sale to government organizations only. It features a hybrid magazine and carbon-fiber handguard, which Lancer designed and developed.
Lancer's optional handguard is a unique carbon-fiber hybrid that reduces the weapon's heat build-up -- and dissipates it faster -- than its aluminum counterpart. It's integrated into the weapon's upper receiver and acts as a lightweight platform for mounting sights.
The weapon's hybrid magazine is made of Lancer's proprietary translucent material.
"The entire team at Lancer is proud of the contributions made to the SIG MPX, the most revolutionary submachine gun and military tactical weapon of its kind on the market," said Scott Vilardi, Lancer's small arms business area manager. "We're thankful for the opportunity to take part in this project with Sig Sauer ... (and) look forward to future collaborations."
