UNTERSCHLEISSHEIM, Germany, Feb. 20 (UPI) -- Equipment for a terrestrial trunked radio network for use nationwide by Taiwan's military police will be supplied by Cassidian of Germany.

The order was given to Cassidian by Chunghwa Telecom, the prime contractor for the TETRA network project of the Ministry of National Defense of the Republic of China.

Cassidian said it will deliver 60 TETRA base stations and 1,500 terminals to Taiwan's Military Police Command, which is responsible for all military police units and operations. The gear will be integrated into the military's existing TETRA network in Taipei.

The gear -- together with the deployment of necessary infrastructure across the country -- will give Taiwan a nationwide TETRA network with nearly 5,000 terminals.

"We are honored to play such an important role in professional radio communications in Taiwan," said David Chan, head of APAC Secure Communication Solutions at Cassidian. "This contract highlights the fact that our proven TETRA solution is recognized as a result of our ability to provide a truly seamless network, including its installation, launch and construction, as well as a modern, reliable after-sales service."

The equipment is to be delivered by Highpull Technology Co., Ltd., Cassidian's local reseller.
