OSHKOSH, Wis., Feb. 18 (UPI) -- U.S. vehicle-Maker Oshkosh Defense is presenting its TerraMax unmanned ground vehicle internationally for the first time.

The technology being displayed through Thursday at the IDEX conference and Exhibition in Abu Dhabi, allows as many as five vehicles equipped with it to be operated remotely by one operator or they can operate autonomously for long periods of time, regardless of weather.

"Crew protection is a crucial priority for militaries as they modernize their vehicle fleets," said Serge Buchakjian, senior vice president and general manager of International Programs for Oshkosh Defense. "Our TerraMax technology gives forces the option to complete missions in dangerous situations with fewer troops."

TerraMax is as a scalable kit. It can be used on any tactical wheeled vehicle, and Oshkosh is demonstrating the system's operator control unit at the Abu Dhabi event.

A TerraMax-equipped vehicle was developed by Oshkosh and its partners for a technology challenge of the U.S. Defense Advanced Projects Agency and has since been developed specifically for convoy operations.
