UNTERSCHLEISSHEIM, Germany, Feb. 15 (UPI) -- A production milestone is being touted by Cassidian of Germany, which said it manufactured its 1,000th target drone.

The DT 45 UAV, for training of air defense units and fighter pilots was built at the company's facility in Friedrichshafen, Germany, for the German navy.

"For over 10 years now, the units have been using our target drones for air defense training for all armed forces on their respective weapon systems, and for practicing the interaction between all participants," said Stefan Baten, head of Cassidian's Target Systems and Services division.

"By providing armed forces with the ability to portray complex scenarios, we can offer them clear added value in terms of tactical combat."

Cassidian's target drones can be equipped with a variety of sensors and transmitters, including infrared and radar emitters for simulating threat scenarios, such as hostile aircraft or missile attacks.

In addition to the German military, armed forces in the Middle East, Asia, Canada and South Africa use Cassidian's target simulation systems, which include Cassidian devised infrastructure for target simulation.
