CANBERRA, Australia, Feb. 13 (UPI) -- Australian defense suppliers have publicly disclosed expected opportunities for industry involvement in major defense capability contracts.

The information is contained in the first Australian Industry Capability Plan, which will particularly be of benefit to small and medium-sized businesses seeking to participate in defense projects.

Australia's Department of Defense said the first AIC was provided by BAE Systems Australia, CSC Australia and Ultra Electronics Avalon Systems and is now online. Three more AIC plans are to be released by major defense contractors by the end of the month and will also be posted on a Defense Department website.

Minister for Defense Materiel Mike Kelly said the AICs are part of the government's commitment to promote Australian industry.

"The government is confident in Australian industry's capacity and skills base, and we will continue to work with industry to encourage innovation and to assist them to demonstrate their capabilities in global supply chains and on the world stage," Kelly said.
