M-346 equipment deal for Aerosonic

CLEARWATER, Fla., Feb. 12 (UPI) -- Aerosonic Corp., a U.S. supplier of flight products, has received $77 million in orders to provide equipment for trainer aircraft being built for Israel.

The equipment ordered for the M-346 trainer, produced by Alenia Aermacchi, are air data systems, including Aerosonic's Integrated Multifunction Probe, which provide angle of attack and air and pressure sensing data in a single probe.

"We are proud to play a role and share in the success of the M-346 program," said Doug Hillman, president and chief executive officer of Aerosonic. "This order provides us with a significant increase in our backlog for one of our technologically advanced products in a growing segment of the military market."

Deliveries of the systems are to begin in June.

The M-346 is a transonic aircraft and was originally developed as a result of a joint venture of Aermacchi and Russia's Yakovlev. It has a maximum speed of 572 knots, a range of 1,070 nautical miles and a service ceiling of 45,000 feet.

Israel has ordered about 30 of the aircraft.
