WASHINGTON, Feb. 12 (UPI) -- U.S. company Boeing and Israel's Elbit Systems plan to offer Elbit's Directed Infrared Counter Measure systems on Boeing military aircraft.

The effort comes under a Memorandum of Understanding between the companies for pursuit of opportunities for self-defense solutions in international markets.

"Boeing is partnering with pioneering firms worldwide to bring advanced technology to our customers," said Boeing Network and Space Systems President Roger Krone. "Our relationship with Elbit is an example of how we are enhancing our portfolio with innovative capabilities for a variety of solutions."

Elbit's Directed Infrared Counter Measure systems -- for fixed-wing and rotor aircraft are lightweight, compact systems that offer protective countermeasures against common battlefield threats. The companies said they are working to integrate the systems onto new and existing aircraft.

"We are very proud to collaborate with Boeing in this unique solution, providing optimum protection for airborne platforms," said Joseph Ackerman, Elbit Systems president and chief executive officer.

"Based on our long history of working with Boeing, we anticipate that this joint effort will provide the optimal solution for protecting our customers and creating synergistic value for both companies in this strategic and fast-growing market."
