LINKOPING, Sweden, Feb. 4 (UPI) -- A new radar systems company in the Middle East is being formed by Saab of Sweden and Tawazun of the United Arab Emirates.
The new operation will be called Abu Dhabi Advanced Radar Systems. Tawazun, a strategic investment company, will own 51 percent of it and Saab 49 percent. The joint venture will be the first company in the Middle East for the development, manufacture, assembly and integration of radar systems.
"Creating ADARS is part of our strategy to increase our presence in key markets," Saab President and Chief Executive Officer Hakan Buskhe. "UAE is one of these key markets, where we have had business relations since the 1980s, including within the radar system area."
ADARS will be a center for the development of next-generation radar systems, as well as for production, maintenance and support services.
Saab said as part of the agreement, 15 local nationals will take part in an advanced degree program in Sweden in microwave and radar technology engineering.
