MADRID, Feb. 4 (UPI) -- Radar signal detection systems and low probability intercept radar systems by Indra of Spain are being installed on Indonesian submarines.

Indra reports the contract for the systems was given it by South Korea's Daewoo Shipbuilding and Marine Engineering.

The systems will be installed on three Type 209 vessels of the Indonesian navy and are worth more than $13.6 million.

"The electronic defense system will enable the submarines to detect and analyze any radar signals there might be in their surroundings and identify the type of vessel, submarine or aircraft they correspond to," Indra said.

"It is a Radar Electronic Support Measurement system based on broadband digital reception technology. This type of processing guarantees high sensitivity for the system, even in a dense electromagnetic environment and extremely quick analysis capabilities."

Spain, Germany and Italy have chosen Indra's system for a number of vessels.
