Cassidian developes maintenance trainer

UNTERSCHLEISSHEIM, Germany, Jan. 31 (UPI) -- A new maintenance system trainer for German air force Eurofighters is to be delivered by Cassidian, the company announced.

The trainer, which simulates on-board systems, was commissioned by the German Federal Office of Bundeswehr Equipment, Information Technology and In-Service Support. It won't only provide training in maintenance and repair work-flow procedures but also provide training in complex areas, such as detection, investigation and elimination of systems faults.

Cassidian said the new system is being developed at the Military Air Systems Center in Manching, Germany, and will be delivered to the German air force at the end of 2015.

Cassidian's described the MST being developed as a 3-D, PC-based simulator that can operated as an independent trainee workstation or part a classroom network.

"An additional Eurofighter cockpit and real controls support the haptic training," it said. "A total of several hundred faults can be simulated in the MST, which the trainees can remedy either on their own or under instruction.

"The MST thus does not replace practical training in the actual aircraft, but does reduce training times in the training machines, the availability of which is limited. At the same time, the MST lowers the risk of potentially damaging the aircraft or endangering the trainees.
