HAUPPAUGE, N.Y., Jan. 29 (UPI) -- A $1.58 million U.S. military order for remote control units for Identification Friend or Foe transponders has been received by Orbit International Corp.

Orbit International said delivery of the units by its Orbit Instrument Division -- part of its Electronics Group -- will begin in the third quarter of this year and completed by year's end.

The RCU is used by the pilot or other on-board flight personnel to control the IFF transponder.

Orbit International said the order received is part of a larger 2011 Memorandum of Agreement and brings total RCU orders received to more than $2 million.

Details on the number of units to be provided the U.S. Army and Navy weren't disclosed.

"We are pleased that following two months of bookings in November and December totaling in excess of $3 million, our Electronics Group has started 2013 on a very strong note with this RCU order for our Orbit Instrument Division," said Mitchell Binder, president and chief executive officer of Orbit International.

"Furthermore, our Electronics Group is expecting additional follow-on orders on certain other legacy programs during the current quarter."

In other company developments, Orbit reported that its Tulip Development Laboratory subsidiary has completed negotiations on a subcontract letter for the manufacture of displays for a major helicopter program. The Letter Subcontract had a not-to-exceed value of $1.18 million. In the negotiations with an unidentified company "the negotiated purchase order for this program was finalized at $1.143 million," the company said.
